Recently I have finally finished this Irezumi/Hokusai inspired illustration for a client, which is specifically designed as a draft for a half-sleeve tattoo, which will elaborate the「福」(good fortune) Kanji on my clients upper right arm. While I have tried to incorporate as much Japaneseness as possible, I still wanted to work in a style that personally suits my way of illustration. Hence, the koi have slightly humanized facial features, and bear a reminiscence of old european monster illustrations.
